Entry 16
After eight
New here? Start at the beginning.
I opened the message I had sent her when work answered too late for the repair window. The sink would not be fixed that day, I had written, and I had asked for the next opening.
There were newer facts now.
I typed them beneath it. The shop had not reproduced the car problem, but I had brought the car home. The file from work was finished. The sink still leaked, and there was still no new appointment.
Each sentence was accurate. Together they made a reason to send the message.
I added a question at the bottom.
Do you have ten minutes to talk tonight?
With the report above it, the question looked like the last item on a list. She would have to read three updates I had not promised before reaching what I wanted.
I deleted everything except the question and sent it.
She answered before I had decided whether another message would make the first one easier.
I can't tonight. Tomorrow after eight?
I read both sentences twice. The first one did not cancel the second. The second did not explain the first.
Yes. I'll call after eight, I wrote.
Okay.
That was the whole exchange.
I set a reminder for five past eight and named it Call. The phone did not need the car, the sink, or the file to make the instruction complete.
